Davido Visits Alma Mater, Promises Support for Babcock Music Department

Singer says education remains important for success

Award-winning singer Davido has stressed the importance of education, insisting that no one should describe schooling as a scam.

The music star made the statement during a visit to his alma mater, Babcock University, on Sunday.

Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the university in 2015.

He said he often proudly tells colleagues that he completed his education despite his global music success.

Davido plans major investment in music department

The singer also pledged to support the university’s music department with modern facilities and equipment.

According to him, the department deserves a standalone building equipped with world-class music tools.

Davido revealed that he recently built a standard music studio in Lagos and plans to replicate similar facilities for the institution.

“Creativity is oil in Nigeria right now. Music is a major industry, and I want to support that vision,” he said.

Singer recalls struggles balancing music and school

Davido admitted that combining his studies with a fast-rising music career proved difficult.

He said fame and growing fan attention nearly forced him to quit school.

The singer, however, credited his father, family members, and some lecturers for encouraging him to finish his degree.

“I almost gave up several times, but they kept pushing me to complete my education,” he said.

Discipline shaped his career, Davido says

The “Omo Baba Olowo” crooner said discipline remains one of the biggest lessons he gained from the university.

He also revealed that he met his wife, Chioma, during his time at the institution.

Davido encouraged young Nigerians to remain focused on their goals and continue developing their talents.

“Whatever you do, push yourself to the limit and love what you are doing,” he advised.

VC praises Davido as worthy ambassador

The Vice Chancellor of Babcock University, Afolarin Ojewole, welcomed the singer and described him as a proud ambassador of the institution.

Ojewole praised Davido’s global achievements in music and acknowledged the Adeleke family’s long-standing support for the university and the Adventist Church.

Students also gathered in large numbers to welcome the singer during his visit.
