Lagos lawmaker and Nollywood actor, Desmond Elliot, has publicly apologised to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over alleged political disagreements between them.
Elliot made the apology during an appearance on TVC’s Your View on Friday.
The Surulere representative said he may have offended Gbajabiamila during political engagements but insisted that any misunderstanding was not intentional.
Elliot Describes Gbajabiamila as Political Mentor
Speaking during the programme, Elliot described Gbajabiamila as his political mentor and senior colleague.
According to him, he learned politics under the guidance of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“I’m not saying, oh yes, media will come out, oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my egbon. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him,” he said.
Elliot added that misunderstandings could happen in political relationships.
“To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way,” he stated.
Apology Linked to Lagos Assembly Crisis
The apology followed political tensions linked to the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership crisis within the All Progressives Congress.
During the crisis, Gbajabiamila revealed that he nearly lost his position as Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu over allegations connected to Elliot’s political activities.
According to Gbajabiamila, President Tinubu confronted him with intelligence reports claiming Elliot played a role in the Assembly speakership dispute.
The Chief of Staff denied the allegations at the time.
Elliot Also Apologises to ‘Matriarch of Surulere’
Elliot also extended an apology to a woman he described as the “matriarch of Surulere.”
“To the matriarch of Surulere, mama, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you,” he said.
Despite the public apology, the lawmaker maintained that he remains committed to strengthening the APC in Surulere and delivering on his mandate.
“But I will keep keeping the party strong. And to all Surulerians, my scorecard is there. You know the things I’ve done to make Surulere a better place,” he added.
Lagos APC Crisis Eventually Resolved
The Lagos Assembly leadership crisis triggered internal tensions within the ruling APC before party leaders resolved the dispute through high-level interventions.
The political disagreement attracted widespread attention across Lagos political circles and raised concerns over divisions within the party.
