Doja Cat has opened up about a difficult chapter of her life. The singer revealed that she once struggled with cocaine use. She made the confession in a series of TikTok videos on August 31. Doja said the experience happened about eight years ago. However, she stressed that cocaine is now far behind her.
“I have struggled with cocaine, I think could have been like eight years ago, but I’m well past that so thank God,” she said.
The “Woman” hitmaker also spoke about her experience with alcohol. According to Doja, she never had serious drug problems beyond weed. Still, alcohol caused issues for her at different points.
“Alcohol is something that I definitely have had a problem with. I was never an alcoholic, but I definitely had problems,” she admitted.
She also explained how drinking and social media sometimes created an unhealthy cycle. Alcohol could worsen her thoughts, while the internet often reinforced those feelings.
Beyond substance use, Doja discussed her mental health and public image. Some people online have described her as “demonic” because of her behaviour and imagery. She believes alcohol, drugs, “undiagnosed” mental illness, and social media played a role. The singer urged people to be careful with harsh online judgments. She questioned whether such comments truly reflected reality or personal projections.
Doja also rejected claims that she hates herself or holds racist views. She linked some of those accusations to her childhood as a biracial person. The singer recalled moving to a predominantly white neighbourhood when she was eight. As she grew older, she said she became more comfortable with her identity and appearance.
“I don’t hate myself. I’m not racist. I’m not a white supremacist. I’m not a Nazi,” Doja said.
She promised to discuss the subject more deeply later. For now, she said speaking out was necessary.
“I just felt like this TikTok was like necessary and I needed to get this shit off of my chest.”
For now, Doja Cat appears focused on healing and understanding her past. Her candid confession also shows the pressure that can come with fame and social media. While she plans to share more later, the singer made one thing clear: she is still working through her journey.
