The UK government has condemned remarks by US Vice-President JD Vance about the murder of Henry Nowak.
Downing Street has criticised JD Vance after he linked the killing of 18-year-old Henry Nowak to migration. He also claimed the case reflected wider societal failures. Vance made the comments in a post on X, describing the murder as evidence of what he called the consequences of “mass invasion of migrants.”
In response, Downing Street said the Nowak family had made it clear they did not want Henry’s death used to create further division. A government spokesperson warned against attempts to interfere in British democracy or inflame tensions.
Henry Nowak Case Sparks Political Debate
Henry Nowak was fatally stabbed in Southampton last year by Vickrum Digwa, who was later jailed for life. The case returned to public attention recently. This was after bodycam footage showed police handcuffing Nowak as he lay dying while his attacker claimed to be the victim.

The Crown Prosecution Service has confirmed that Digwa was born in Britain, contradicting suggestions that the case was linked to immigration.
Pressure Grows Over Police Response
The incident has triggered renewed scrutiny of police actions and sparked political debate across the UK. Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has called for an independent review. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is already investigating officers’ conduct.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Keir Starmer and other political leaders have urged the public not to use the tragedy to deepen divisions.
