The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed former Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen as interim head coach of the Super Falcons.
Eguavoen will take charge of the senior women’s national team for their second-round 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers against Comoros in October. The appointment comes as the NFF continues its search for a substantive coach for the Super Falcons.
The federation said Eguavoen, popularly known as “Cerezo”, brings extensive international experience to the role. He will work alongside Christopher Danjuma, head coach of Nigeria Women’s Football League club Nasarawa Amazons. Danjuma has extensive experience with Nigeria’s women’s national teams. He also led the Falconets at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa has also been named part of the interim coaching staff. Baruwa has worked with several Nigerian national teams, including the Super Eagles, CHAN Eagles, Flying Eagles and Golden Eaglets.
Former Super Falcons defender and coach Ayisat Yusuf will complete the coaching team as an assistant coach. Yusuf has 68 international appearances for Nigeria. She represented the country at four Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, three FIFA Women’s World Cups and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Eguavoen’s immediate task will be to guide the Super Falcons through their Olympic qualifying tie against Comoros as Nigeria begins its campaign for a place at the 2028 Games.
