The Lagos state government has denied reports that Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of the state, has been asked to resign on health grounds.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Gboyega Akosile, special adviser on media and publicity to the governor, described the report published by Sahara Reporters as false.

“We have noted with concern a false report alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been ordered to resign on health grounds,” the statement read.

“This report is false in its entirety. Nobody has asked the governor to resign.”

Akosile said Sanwo-Olu remains in good health and continues to carry out his duties.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, of sound mind, and is actively discharging his responsibilities,” he said.

He added that the governor earlier received Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor of the state, who formally informed him of his intention to contest for governor.

“The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, as is customary,” the statement added.

Akosile accused Sahara Reporters of publishing disinformation and urged the public to disregard the report.

“We advise the public to disregard the story and treat it as fake news,” he said.
