Falz Decries Nigeria’s Tribal, Religious Divides, Urges Unity

Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has expressed his concern about the growing tribal and religious divisions in Nigeria. He commented after a social media post by fellow entertainer Nasboi, who urged Nigerians to lay aside their ethnic and religious differences and focus instead on holding leaders accountable for corruption and bad governance.

Falz said that it has been emotionally draining for him. From the standpoint of concern, he said, was knowing that Nigerians keep allowing believers to divide political differences and religious differences. He posted his comment on social media and particularly mentioned the need for citizens to start thinking for themselves so that they will not be used by politicians.

A Call for Independent Thinking

Falz expressed his sentiments by lamenting that Nigerians have always used tribal and religious sentiments to divide the nation. He said that politicians have used this tactic to divert attention from salient matters such as corruption, insecurity, and economic hardship.

He said, “I can’t even explain how depressing it’s been these past years to see tribal and religious sentiments still being turned upon us to incite one another. Somewhere along the line, somebody’s going to have to start thinking for themselves.”

Falz Striving Towards Activism

Falz has been emerging as an activist speaking against social justice and governance issues. He is quite notable during #EndSARS protests 2020, marching alongside thousands of Nigerians within the country, aiming at police systems reforms suppressing police brutality.

Falz raised cries for urgent need for a nation that can stick together. Nigeria today grapples with economic woes, insecurity, and political instability, but the call for unity and collective action becomes more pronounced.
