The Federal Government launched a new emergency call centre and ambulance service in Cross River State. Officials unveiled the facilities at the General Hospital in Calabar. Dr Doubra Emuren represented the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Pate, during the event.
Moreover the launch aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for Health. It also supports Governor Bassey Otu’s People’s First Agenda. Stakeholders gathered to celebrate this step toward better healthcare.
Key Features of the Service
The call centre features broadband internet and a 24 hour power supply. Trained staff handle calls and address healthcare concerns quickly. Residents dial 112 for free emergency help.
Additionally the ambulance service starts with five vehicles. Plans include integrating private and public ambulances. The Emergency Medical Treatment Gateway provides pre-hospital care and transport.
Benefits for Residents
This service ensures prompt responses to crises like floods, fires and road accidents. No one faces delays due to lack of funds. The Basic Healthcare Provision Fund covers costs for the poor and vulnerable.
Furthermore it boosts access to quality emergency care across the state. Rural and urban areas benefit equally. As a result, lives are saved through faster interventions.
Partnerships and Future Plans
The government partners with the Cross River State Emergency Medical Treatment Committee. Key figures include Dr David Ushie and Chief Godwin Iyala. They establish operational structures for smooth running.
In addition, expansion efforts aim to reach all residents. The National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System leads this initiative. In conclusion, Nigeria advances toward reliable emergency healthcare.
