Hamzat: I’ll win Lagos APC primary, become governor

Obafemi Hamzat

Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor of Lagos state, says he is confident of emerging victorious in the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and becoming the next governor of Lagos State.

Hamzat spoke with journalists on Saturday after undergoing screening at the APC national headquarters in Abuja.

Earlier, President Bola Tinubu, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and members of the governance advisory council (GAC) endorsed and adopted Hamzat as the consensus candidate of the party.

Speaking on the screening exercise, the deputy governor said the process focused on verifying the authenticity of documents and information submitted by aspirants.

“The essence is to make sure that credentials are valid, validate everything you submitted,” he said.

“To make sure that everything that you put down on paper is actually true.”

Hamzat said the screening committee also assessed party membership records and public service experience.

“They just said explain this, explain this. You were commissioner for what? What do you do? You’re deputy governor, what do you do? So those are the questions,” he said.

The deputy governor described the process as smooth and transparent.

“Excellent. Excellent,” he said when asked about his assessment of the exercise.

Hamzat also expressed confidence in the internal process of the APC in Lagos.

“I’m very comfortable. I’m absolutely comfortable,” he said.

He added that party members and Lagos residents would ultimately determine the outcome of the election.

“It’s for our citizens and party members. It’s going to be their choice,” he said.

“I’m confident that they’ll get the potential.

“Not only that, but I will be the next governor of Lagos state.”
