Hundreds arrested in France after PSG Champions League victory

More than 400 people were arrested after celebrations following PSG’s Champions League triumph turned violent across France.

Clashes broke out between football fans and police after Paris Saint-Germain defeated Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League final. Authorities said more than 400 people were arrested, including 280 in Paris, as unrest disrupted transport services and damaged property.

Fans gathered in large numbers on the Champs-Élysées, where fireworks, flares, and fires were reported. Police used tear gas to disperse crowds, while several officers were injured during the disturbances. Vehicles, businesses, and public infrastructure were also damaged.

French authorities had deployed thousands of security personnel ahead of the celebrations following similar violence after PSG’s Champions League success last year. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez described the unrest as “absolutely unacceptable.”

PSG players are expected to continue victory celebrations on Sunday with a parade in Paris and a reception hosted by President Emmanuel Macron.
