Davido’s elder sister, Sharon Ademefun, has shared surprising details about her childhood. She revealed that she did not know her family was wealthy until she turned 21 and moved to Nigeria. Despite being the daughter of a prominent African businessman, Sharon said she grew up living a normal life. She made the revelation during an interview on The Fashion Roundtable.
Sharon explained that her father ensured his children understood the value of hard work. She attended school like other children and worked during her high school years. One of her jobs involved cleaning changing rooms for just five pounds a week. According to her, her father gave them only what they needed. This kept them from becoming too familiar with the family’s wealth.
“I didn’t even know we have money till like 21, to be honest with you. I lived a very normal life outside of my schools,” she said.
Her work experience continued into adulthood. Sharon spent nearly five years working as a professional babysitter while attending college. She said the job helped her develop valuable childcare skills.
However, things changed after she relocated to Nigeria. People began reacting with surprise when they discovered her family background. She also recalled how her father queued with the family at Disney theme parks, despite his wealth. Unlike her father, Sharon prefers a more luxurious experience for her children.
“When I take my kids to Disney now, we’re going Disney VIP because I’m not queuing for anybody,” she joked.
Sharon described her father as a humble man who rarely flaunted his wealth. However, she said he has recently started encouraging her children to embrace their family identity. She also joked that Davido’s famous 30BG slogan might have influenced their grandfather. According to Sharon, the popular catchphrase may have “entered his spirit.”
Her story highlights the difference between her father’s modest parenting style and her own approach to raising her children.
