Ibrahima Konate set to leave Liverpool on free transfer

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate is expected to leave Anfield when his contract expires next summer.

Ibrahima Konate is set to leave Liverpool F.C. on a free transfer after negotiations over a new contract reportedly collapsed.

The French centre-back joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 for £35 million on a five-year deal. Both sides were initially optimistic about extending his stay, but talks have now stopped due to differences over wages and contract value.

Konate previously said there was a “big chance” he would remain at Anfield, but no agreement has been reached. Liverpool are now expected to lose another experienced player for free, following the departures of Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah.

The situation also raises concerns about Liverpool’s defensive depth. Club captain Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez remain the only experienced central defenders currently at the club.

Liverpool are believed to be prioritising other squad issues, including replacing Salah and covering for injuries in attack.

Konate is now expected to attract major interest across Europe as one of the biggest potential free-agent signings on the market.
