President Tinubu dismisses health rumours after returning to Nigeria, saying he is healthy, sound and ready to resume official duties.
President Bola Tinubu has dismissed rumours about his health after returning to Nigeria from his extended working vacation in Europe. The President said he remains “healthy, sound, and ready to go.”
Tinubu spoke with journalists on Tuesday after arriving in Lagos from France. He also sought to calm concerns that had spread during his time abroad.
Responding to questions about his health, Tinubu said there was nothing wrong with him.
“Ready to kick, ready to walk. There’s nothing wrong,” he said.
The President added that political rumours would always emerge. However, he said the facts showed that he was back in Nigeria and ready to work.
Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30 for a three-week working vacation in Europe. He first travelled to London before moving to Paris, France. The Presidency later extended his stay and said he remained in contact with events in Nigeria. It also said he continued to direct the country’s affairs while abroad.
Meanwhile, his long stay overseas sparked public debate and political criticism. The African Action Congress also sued Tinubu and the National Assembly over the trip. The party alleged that Tinubu failed to notify the National Assembly before leaving Nigeria.
Now back in the country, the President is expected to resume official duties ahead of Nigeria’s October 1 Independence anniversary.
