The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Bolakale Kawu, has denied any connection to a viral video linking his 2027 governorship ambition to ritual activities.
He described the allegations as false, mischievous and deliberately designed to mislead the public.
Viral video sparks controversy
The clarification followed the circulation of a video on social media featuring one Alhaji Saheed Ishola, popularly known as LogunOfe. The video allegedly contained comments and activities linked to ritual sacrifice in relation to the 2027 governorship election.
Earlier reports also claimed that some PDP supporters visited a shrine in Ogun State. They allegedly prayed for the death of people opposed to the political ambitions of former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Bolakale Kawu.
Kawu denies any connection
In a statement issued on Saturday, Kawu’s media office said the PDP candidate has no relationship with the individual featured in the video. The statement also said the man neither represents Kawu nor works for his campaign team.
“Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu has no connection whatsoever with the said individual’s utterances or his alleged actions. Any attempt by anyone to associate the PDP governorship candidate with such conduct is false, mischievous and should be disregarded in its entirety.”
The statement further clarified that Alhaji Saheed Ishola, also known as LogunOfe, does not speak for Kawu in any capacity.
No approval for such activities
Kawu’s media office also said he has never authorised anyone to make such statements or engage in activities of that nature on his behalf.
“At no time has Engr. Kawu authorised, sanctioned or approved any individual to engage in activities or make statements of such nature in his name or in furtherance of his aspiration.”
Furthermore, the statement urged members of the public to ignore attempts to link the governorship candidate to the allegations.
Candidate reaffirms religious beliefs
The media office described Kawu as a devoted Muslim who does not believe in ritual, fetish or diabolical practices. It added that he places his trust entirely in Almighty Allah. According to the statement, he believes that victory, honour and authority come only through God’s will.
“Engr. Kawu is a devoted Muslim whose faith is firmly rooted in the absolute oneness and sovereignty of Almighty Allah. He neither associates partners with his Creator nor subscribes to any form of ritual, fetish or diabolical practice.”
Campaign focused on service
The statement said Kawu’s governorship ambition is driven by a genuine desire to serve the people of Kwara State. It added that his campaign remains focused on restoring security, rebuilding public confidence, promoting prosperity and improving residents’ welfare.
Finally, the media office urged the public to disregard the viral claims. It also said Kawu would continue to pursue a peaceful, issue-based campaign founded on integrity, respect for the rule of law, faith in God and the democratic will of the people.
