The Lagos State Government has started recruiting doctors, nurses and other clinical personnel into its 29 secondary healthcare facilities to strengthen healthcare delivery and tackle workforce shortages.
The Lagos State Health Service Commission announced the exercise in a statement on Monday. It said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved the recruitment to fill vacancies in government general hospitals across the state.
Recruitment targets healthcare improvement
According to the commission, the recruitment supports the THEMES Agenda of the current administration. It also seeks to improve access to quality healthcare for Lagos residents.
In addition, the commission said the exercise will reduce the impact of brain drain on the state’s health sector by increasing the number of healthcare professionals in public hospitals.
“In line with the THEMES Agenda of the present administration and in fulfilling the promise of qualitative healthcare delivery to the residents of Lagos State, Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved the recruitment of clinical staff to fill the existing vacancies in the twenty-nine (29) Secondary Healthcare Facilities in the State.”
Available positions
The commission invited applications for consultants in various medical specialties, senior registrars, medical officers and dental officers.
Applicants can also apply for positions as pharmacists, physiotherapists, medical laboratory scientists, optometrists, radiographers, nursing officers, clinical psychologists and health assistants.

Interested candidates should submit their applications through the official Lagos State Health Service Commission recruitment portal.

The application portal opened on Monday, July 13, 2026. However, the commission will close the portal on Friday, July 24, 2026.
After reviewing applications, the commission will shortlist qualified candidates for a computer-based test and interview.
Commission issues warning
Meanwhile, the Health Service Commission warned applicants not to pay anyone during the recruitment exercise.
It emphasised that the application process is free. Furthermore, it advised candidates to rely only on official communication channels for recruitment updates.
What happens next?
After the application deadline, the Lagos State Health Service Commission will screen all submissions and shortlist qualified candidates. It will then conduct computer-based tests and interviews before offering appointments to successful applicants.
