Makinde’s presidential bid dead on arrival, says Wike

Nyeson Wike

Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), says the presidential ambition of Seyi Makinde is “dead on arrival”.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Wike dismissed claims of a coalition between a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Makinde and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Earlier, Makinde had declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election during a mega rally organised by the Turaki-led PDP and the APM.

The Oyo governor said he would run under a coalition arrangement involving his PDP faction and the APM.

Reacting, Wike said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not recognise any alliance known as “PDP-APM”.

“INEC knows there’s nothing called PDP-APM,” he said.

“It’s the imagination of Governor Makinde.”

The former Rivers governor also accused Makinde of avoiding a direct declaration that he had joined the APM to pursue his presidential ambition.

“Instead of Makinde to come out and say that he has joined APM to actualise his presidential ambition, which is dead on arrival,” Wike said.

“We told him he cannot fly the presidential flag under the PDP.”
