Man City beat Arsenal to cut title race gap to three points

Manchester City have turned up the pressure after defeating Arsenal in a huge Premier League showdown.

Manchester City beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium to move within three points of the league leaders and keep the title race firmly in their hands. Pep Guardiola’s side also have a game in hand, meaning they could go top with victory in their next match.

The game delivered drama from start to finish. Rayan Cherki opened the scoring for City after showing quick footwork inside the penalty area. Arsenal responded almost immediately, equalising just 107 seconds later when goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s rushed clearance bounced off Kai Havertz and into the net.

City regained control in the second half. Erling Haaland, who had already hit the post earlier, finished from close range to restore the lead and seal a crucial three points for the champions.

Arsenal had chances to rescue a point late on. Gabriel’s header struck the post, while Havertz missed a clear headed opportunity as City held firm under pressure.

The result means Arsenal’s lead at the top has been reduced from nine points to three in just one week. Manchester City can now overtake the Gunners on Wednesday if they beat Burnley in their game in hand.

Despite the defeat, statistical models from Opta still rate Arsenal as slight favourites to win their first Premier League title in 22 years. However, momentum now appears to be swinging toward City once again.

With only a few games remaining, the Premier League title race is set for a dramatic finish.
