Media mogul and EbonyLife CEO, Mo Abudu, has opened up about respect, age and the boundaries she keeps with younger people.
The 61-year-old executive spoke during a chat with Toke Makinwa on Toke Moments. She explained that her traditional upbringing shaped how she expects younger people to address their elders.
Mo revealed that she does not appreciate being called by her first name without respect. According to her, growing up with her grandmother in Ondo influenced her values.
“I am very traditional. I was brought up in Ondo by my grandmother. You can’t be calling me by my first name anyhow. I won’t take it!” she said.
Her comments have sparked conversations about changing ideas of respect across generations.
Meanwhile, Mo also spoke about how people view her tough business style. Some people have described her as a “shark” because of her approach to business. However, she believes gender plays a role in such labels.
“If I was a man, they wouldn’t say I was a shark. They’re going to say she’s an astute businesswoman,” she said.
Mo also criticised people who play the victim after failing to meet expectations. On matters of love, the media executive said heartbreak is no longer a major concern for her.
“Nobody can break my heart,” she stated.
She also revealed that she would prefer dating someone her age or older. For Mo, age is not the only factor that matters. She wants a partner she can respect, adding that “you must have achieved something.”
