Apostle Sam Adegoke, founder of Elijah Generation Church in Akure, Ondo State, has apologised for his past sexual relationships. The pastor recently married but has now stepped back from public ministry. He said he needs time to reflect, seek counsel and make amends.
Adegoke shared the apology in a statement released on Monday. He admitted that he had sexual relationships with women before his marriage. However, he said he deeply regrets those actions. Adegoke accepted responsibility and refused to use his unmarried status as an excuse. He said,
“Although these events occurred before my marriage, I acknowledge that my actions were wrong.”
According to him, his conduct fell short of the holiness, integrity and self-control expected from a Christian minister. He also apologised to the women involved for any pain or harm he may have caused. In addition, he apologised to his wife, family, church members and colleagues.
Meanwhile, the pastor said he has started taking steps towards genuine change. He said he has sought God and received pastoral and professional counselling. He also plans to remain accountable throughout the process. Adegoke believes true repentance requires more than words. He said it must produce changed behaviour, accountability and a willingness to face consequences.
“I take full responsibility for my actions,” he stated.
For now, Adegoke has withdrawn from public ministry and social media. He also asked people to pray for him during the difficult period.
“I ask for prayer, not that my actions would be excused,” he said.
Instead, he wants the courage to confront his past and make amends where necessary. He ended by expressing deep regret and promising to pursue greater integrity. His wife and church have not publicly added further details.
Both Adegoke and his wife have also disabled comments on their Instagram accounts following the controversy.
