Veteran entertainer and social commentator Charly Boy has opened up about his daughters’ sexuality. He said his two daughters identify as lesbians and do not need his approval to live their lives.
Speaking with Saturday Beats, Charly Boy explained why he accepted their choices. He said love shaped his response, even though the news initially surprised him.
“My youngest daughter came out first, years ago, and my eldest daughter came out more recently,” he said.
He added that parents cannot control the lives of grown children. Charly Boy said his main concern remains his daughters’ happiness.
“If she decides that she no longer likes men and prefers to be a lesbian, so be it,” he said.
He also said he wants to remain a supportive father. According to him, parents should guide their children instead of controlling them.
“The days of beating and commanding are gone and can’t come back,” he said.
Meanwhile, Charly Boy also spoke about his friendship with former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He described Obasanjo as both a friend and a father figure.
“Sometimes, I feel like he’s my father because he talks like my father,” he said.
Charly Boy added that they sometimes talk for three or four hours. Their conversations often cover religion, life and personal matters. He said their friendship grew naturally and that they speak almost every day.
Ultimately, Charly Boy says love, understanding and guidance should shape the relationship between parents and their adult children.
