Osigwe Raises Alarm Over Missing NYSC Member
President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Afam Osigwe, has called for the immediate release of abducted lawyer and National Youth Service Corps member, Eunice Ameh.
Osigwe described Ameh’s disappearance as painful and deeply troubling to the legal community.
He made the appeal in a statement posted on X on Saturday amid growing concerns over the young lawyer’s whereabouts after suspected kidnappers reportedly abducted her in Abuja.
NBA Says Legal Community Deeply Disturbed
The NBA president said lawyers across the country remain emotionally affected by the incident.
“Release Eunice Ameh now! When a young lawyer goes missing, the pain is not distant to the Nigerian Bar Association, it is personal,” he stated.
Osigwe explained that the NBA represents more than a professional association because members share common struggles, sacrifices, and responsibilities.
“We are more than a professional body. We are a community bound by shared sacrifice, shared dreams, and a collective duty to stand for one another,” he added.
Call for Urgent Police Action
Osigwe urged the Nigeria Police Force to intensify rescue efforts immediately.
He called on the Inspector General of Police to deploy tactical and intelligence resources to secure Ameh’s release and arrest those behind the abduction.
“This is not a moment for routine assurances. Every passing hour matters, and every effort must count,” he said.
According to him, every missing person case leaves families and loved ones in emotional distress.
“Behind every missing person report is a family unable to sleep, friends clinging to hope, and colleagues praying for safe return,” he stated.
Kidnappers Reportedly Demand N20m Ransom
Reports indicated that suspected kidnappers demanded N20 million ransom after Ameh’s abduction in Abuja.
Sources said the young lawyer recently resumed work as a Sales Manager at Blades and Butchers Ltd.
She also reportedly neared the completion of her NYSC programme, including her final Community Development Service activities.
Public Asked to Support Rescue Efforts
Osigwe appealed to Nigerians with useful information to cooperate with security agencies handling the case.
“We stand firmly with her family, friends, and colleagues in this painful time,” he said.
He added that the legal community remains hopeful for Ameh’s safe return.
