NDC Governorship Candidate Gwarzo Missing From INEC’s Kano List

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, is absent from the final list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The list, signed by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony, contains 17 governorship candidates and their running mates but does not include Gwarzo or any candidate representing the NDC. The INEC list provides details of the candidates and their running mates, including their names, political affiliations, ages, genders and educational qualifications.

The commission did not explain Gwarzo’s absence in the document, leaving the reason for the omission unclear. It is also uncertain whether the development is connected to the party’s nomination process, documentation requirements or another issue.

The omission raises questions about the NDC’s participation in the Kano governorship election, although the published list alone does not establish why the party’s candidate was excluded. INEC has yet to provide an explanation for the candidate’s absence in the document.
