Ndume: 2027 will be a tough fight between Tinubu, Obi Atiku

Ali Ndume

Ali Ndume, senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, says the 2027 presidential election will be fiercely contested, with President Bola Tinubu facing strong challenges from Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme, the senator said he was not worried about the ruling APC losing power but cautioned party members against underestimating the opposition.

“No, I’m not that worried, but at the same time, I don’t take opponents for granted,” he said.

His comments came amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 election, with opposition figures positioning themselves to challenge Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The lawmaker criticised some members of the president’s inner circle for allegedly failing to tell him uncomfortable truths.

“That is the mistake many of us are making, especially those who are around Mr President, by having problems with telling him the fact, the truth,” he said.

Ndume noted that the APC would have to work hard to retain power, describing the coming election as a difficult contest.

“It’s going to be a tough fight. I agree with that,” he said.

The senator added that the key contenders are experienced politicians who are already familiar with Nigeria’s electoral terrain.

“They are not new in the arena,” he said.
