Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, national chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has warned that Nigeria risks collapse if President Bola Tinubu secures a second term in 2027.
Speaking in a recent interview with journalists, Baba-Ahmed said the country is facing worsening insecurity, poverty, and division under the current administration.
“We’ve never been in a war situation more than we are now,” he said.
“We have a government that is too removed from the people. They don’t really understand the state in which Nigerians live.”
The former spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum said insecurity has reached unprecedented levels, while economic hardship continues to deepen.
“Poverty levels are unprecedented. Young people have no hope. There is nothing to inspire them,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed also said the country is more divided than ever.
“We are fighting each other. We are hating each other. The country is more divided now than it has ever been,” he said.
He warned that another term for the current administration could have grave consequences.
“Another term for the same administration may just put an end to this country,” he said.
He dismissed claims of a political “gang up” against the president.
“If there is a gang up, it will be by criminals and bandits the president has not been able to contain,” he said.
He accused the government of failing to address insecurity.
“The president is incapable of securing Nigerians and is blaming others instead of dealing with the sources of the problem,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed, who briefly served as special adviser to the president on political affairs before resigning, said Nigerians must use the 2027 election to change the country’s direction.
