Nollywood stars gathered in Lagos on Wednesday to honour veteran actor Olu Jacobs. The Night of Tributes held at Glover Memorial Hall, Lagos Island. Colleagues, friends and industry veterans came together to celebrate his life and career. Jacobs died on September 16, 2026, aged 84.
Several stars attended the emotional ceremony. They included Richard Mofe-Damijo, Funke Akindele, Sola Sobowale and Jide Kosoko. Adebayo Salami, Hilda Dokubo, Segun Arinze and Rita Dominic also attended.
Other guests included Emeka Ike, Femi Adebayo and Madam Saje. Arts Minister Hannatu Musawa also joined the gathering. The evening featured performances, tributes and personal memories.
Richard Mofe-Damijo remembered Jacobs as a father figure to many actors. Meanwhile, Sola Sobowale became emotional while discussing his impact on her career. Other speakers praised his professionalism and mentorship. They also highlighted his major role in Nigerian theatre and film. Known as the “Lion of Lufodo”, Jacobs enjoyed a career spanning over five decades.
Jacobs trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He later worked in British theatre and television before returning to Nigeria. Together with his wife, Joke Silva, he co-founded the Lufodo Group and Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts. The institutions helped train new performers. Olu Jacobs also received the MFR national honour in 2011.
His funeral service will hold on Friday, October 2, at This Present House, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. Guests are expected to wear shades of green. A private burial will follow the service.
