The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it will make youth development, agriculture and business growth key parts of its agenda for Oyo State if elected in 2027.
Chief Niyi Aborisade, the party’s governorship running mate, made this known while accepting his nomination. He will run alongside the ADC governorship candidate, Dr Gbemileke Alagbe, popularly known as Eleniyan. Aborisade said the party wants to build an Oyo State driven by competence, accountability, opportunity and justice.
The human rights lawyer explained that his decision to accept the position was motivated by a desire to contribute to the development of the state. He described the ADC ticket as “a covenant with the people.” According to him, the partnership with Alagbe reflects their shared belief that Oyo State can do better.
ADC plans support for youth and farmers
Aborisade said an ADC government would create more opportunities for young people and support farmers across the state. The party also plans to reduce unnecessary barriers facing businesses. It would further strengthen key sectors of the state’s economy.
“We want an Oyo State where young people do not have to abandon their dreams because opportunities are scarce; where our farmers can produce, prosper and feed the nation; where businesses can grow without unnecessary obstacles,” he said.
Education, healthcare, infrastructure and security would also receive attention under the proposed administration. Aborisade said the party would improve schools and strengthen healthcare services. It would also develop roads that support economic activities across the state. Security, he added, would remain a major responsibility of the government. The goal would be to create a safer environment for residents and businesses.
Aborisade seeks support from Oyo residents
The ADC running mate said government should listen to residents and treat public office as a trust. He urged young people to remain hopeful about the future of Oyo State. Aborisade also called on women, farmers, artisans, traders, professionals, workers, students, pensioners and business owners to support the party.
“To our young people, I say: do not give up on Oyo State. This is your state. Your future is here, and together we will create an environment where your talent can flourish,” he said.
Traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations and professional bodies also received an appeal for support. Aborisade acknowledged that the road to the 2027 election would be challenging. However, he said the ADC was prepared to pursue what he described as genuine development.
ADC says its goal goes beyond winning
The party’s ambition, according to Aborisade, goes beyond securing victory at the polls. He said the ADC wants to restore hope and give residents confidence in the future. Aborisade urged ADC members and supporters to promote politics based on principles, ideas and service.
“The real revolutionaries are here,” he declared.
He expressed confidence that the party would deliver positive change in Oyo State if voters give it the mandate in 2027.
