Plateau Cholera Outbreak: 11 confirmed cases, five deaths recorded in Mangu

Plateau State health authorities have intensified emergency measures after confirming a cholera outbreak in Mangu Local Government Area.

Plateau State has recorded 11 confirmed cholera cases and five deaths, according to the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Baamlong.

The confirmed infections were reported alongside 53 suspected cases in Pushit, Mangu 1, and Mangu 2 communities in Mangu Local Government Area. Cholera is a highly infectious waterborne disease that spreads through contaminated food and water.

To contain the outbreak, the state government has deployed additional Rapid Response Teams, expanded treatment and isolation centres, and begun emergency procurement of diagnostic kits, intravenous fluids, and other essential medical supplies.

The Ministry of Health has also activated an Incident Management System to coordinate a broader response involving multiple agencies and stakeholders.

Health officials say surveillance and intervention efforts are ongoing as authorities work to prevent further infections and deaths across affected communities.
