Operatives Recover ₦830,000 Ransom
The Abia State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper in Umuahia and rescued a victim during a security operation.
Police also recovered ₦830,000 collected as ransom from the victim’s family.
The command identified the suspect as Ibrahim Audu, 42, while the rescued victim is Onyebuchi Nwaoha, 46.
Both men are residents of Old Umuahia.
Police Raid Forest Hideout
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday.
She said operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit acted on intelligence and stormed the Ogwashi Forest in Old Umuahia.
Police suspected the forest served as a hideout for kidnappers.
During the operation, security operatives engaged the gang members in a gun battle.
The suspects later fled after the officers overpowered them.
Investigation Continues
Police arrested Audu during the operation and rescued the victim safely.
Officers also recovered the ₦830,000 ransom collected from the victim’s relatives.
The command stated that investigations remain ongoing as operatives continue efforts to arrest other fleeing gang members.
CP Calls for Public Support
The Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He urged residents to support security agencies with timely and useful information.
According to him, stronger collaboration between the public and the police would help reduce criminal activities across the state.
