The half-sister of reality TV star Mackayla “Kash” Paige faces serious charges after her death in a shooting in Richmond, California. Authorities charged Vernika Dunbar with involuntary manslaughter, assault with a firearm, and carrying a loaded firearm in public. According to KTVU, all three charges are felonies. Court records also show a misdemeanor charge for allegedly brandishing a gun in public.
Police said the shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 11. Paige, 29, was reportedly fighting another woman on the 200 block of 14th Street. Investigators believe Dunbar tried to pistol-whip the woman who was fighting her half-sister. However, the gun fired and struck Paige instead. Officers rushed Paige to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, Dunbar has remained in police custody since the shooting, authorities confirmed. The charges highlight how a confrontation can turn deadly within moments. However, the case remains a legal matter, and the allegations will be addressed through the justice system.
Following Paige’s death, her cousin, Charles Shavies, shared an emotional tribute online. He said Paige “was more than a reality TV star and social media influencer — she was a beautiful young woman with big dreams, a bold personality, and a determination to make her mark on the world.”
Paige gained attention through her appearances on reality shows such as Real West Coast Baddies, Room H8z, and Young & Reckless. Her death has left fans and loved ones mourning a young woman whose ambitions extended beyond television.
