Security Chiefs Meet Over Trump’s Military Threat

Nigeria’s security chiefs meeting in Abuja after Trump’s military threat

Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has met with service chiefs and heads of intelligence agencies in Abuja. The meeting came in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to deploy military forces to Nigeria.

Security Chiefs Hold Emergency Meeting in Abuja

The high-level meeting was held behind closed doors on Monday.
According to sources, it followed Trump’s statement on Truth Social, where he ordered the “Department of War” to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria. He claimed that the United States might intervene if the Nigerian government failed to stop alleged attacks on Christians.

In his post, Trump warned that Washington would suspend all aid and assistance to Nigeria if President Bola Tinubu’s administration did not end the killings.

Trump’s Directive Sparks Urgent Response

Trump’s posted “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the USA will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now-disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing’, to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists committing these horrible atrocities.”

He further directed the U.S. “Department of War” to prepare for possible action, promising any attack would be “fast, vicious, and sweet.” Consequently, Nigerian officials moved swiftly to review the situation and assess potential diplomatic steps.

Government Plans Media Briefing

After the meeting, Ribadu is expected to brief newspaper editors and senior media executives.
The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, confirmed that the security chiefs will address the media on the matter. According to him, the briefing will provide “adequate response to the allegations of genocide” and update journalists on the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen security and restore public confidence.

Conclusion

Nigeria’s security leaders are taking Trump’s warning seriously but are urging calm. Officials are expected to clarify the nation’s position soon and reaffirm the government’s commitment to peace, diplomacy, and national security.
