Police Arrest Rochas Okorocha in Abuja, Release Him on Bail

Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja on Monday night and released on bail after approximately one hour of interrogation over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.

The police confirmed the development to Channels Television through their Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu. Okorocha was reportedly arrested at REIZ Continental Hotel in central Abuja. He was subsequently granted bail and asked to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning as investigations continue.

According to reports, the arrest followed his failure to honour previous police invitations concerning the allegations under investigation. Okorocha had initially been invited to the Force Headquarters on September 2. However, the appointment was rescheduled to September 8 following a request from his lawyers.

He reportedly failed to honour the rescheduled invitation, prompting the police to take further action. Iniedu confirmed both the arrest and the former governor’s subsequent release on bail, adding that further interrogation had been scheduled.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against Okorocha have not been established in court.
