Hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles struck Ukraine overnight, leaving at least four people dead and dozens injured.
Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia launched a large-scale assault on Ukraine overnight into Sunday, firing around 600 drones and 90 missiles across multiple regions.
The attacks killed at least four people in Kyiv and nearby areas, while more than 50 others were injured. Ukrainian officials said residential buildings, schools, shopping centres, and emergency facilities were damaged during the strikes.
Zelensky said Russia used the Oreshnik hypersonic missile in an attack on Bila Tserkva in the Kyiv region. Ukrainian authorities warned before the assault that Moscow could deploy the high-speed missile, which is reportedly difficult to intercept.
The strikes came days after Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed retaliation over a Ukrainian attack in the occupied town of Starobilsk. Ukraine said it targeted a Russian military unit in the area, not civilians.
Emergency crews continued rescue and recovery operations across Kyiv and other affected regions.
