Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged Bola Tinubu to direct an investigation into the alleged diversion of ₦2.9 billion from government agencies, including the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited.
In a post on X on Sunday, SERAP called on the president to instruct Bosun Tijani, minister of communications, innovation and digital economy, as well as the management of NIGCOMSAT and the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority, to account for the whereabouts of the funds.
The group also urged Tinubu to direct Lateef Fagbemi, the attorney-general of the federation, and anti-corruption agencies to investigate the allegations and ensure accountability.
“We’ve urged President Bola Tinubu to direct the relevant authorities to account for and explain the whereabouts of the alleged missing or diverted ₦2.9 billion of public funds from NIGCOMSAT and NNRA,” the statement read.
SERAP said anyone found culpable should be prosecuted where there is sufficient admissible evidence, while all diverted funds should be fully recovered and remitted to the public treasury.
The organisation noted that the allegations were contained in the latest annual report published by the Auditor-General on September 9, 2025.
It described the claims as a “grave violation of public trust” and a breach of Nigeria’s anti-corruption laws and international obligations.
SERAP added that ensuring accountability in NIGCOMSAT and NNRA is critical given their strategic roles in the country’s digital economy and national safety systems.
According to the group, mismanagement in the agencies not only wastes scarce public resources but also poses risks to national development, technological progress, and public safety.
