Seun Kuti, Afrobeat musician, says President Bola Tinubu has become the same kind of leader he opposed during Nigeria’s military era.
Kuti made the remarks in a viral video circulating on social media.
‘Revolutionaries must stand on truth’
Kuti criticised what he described as a culture of dishonesty in Nigeria.
He said genuine revolutionaries must remain committed to the truth.
“Lying to the people is not revolutionary,” he said.
“The real revolutionaries cannot be liars.”
“You must stand on the truth, no matter how difficult it looks.”
Accuses leaders of deceiving Nigerians
Furthermore, Kuti accused some political leaders of misleading Nigerians for personal gain.
He said many citizens also deceive themselves.
“They lie to you, you lie to yourselves,” he said.
“These are liars.”
“These are people who want to destroy Nigeria for their own benefit.”
‘Tinubu has become what he fought against’
Meanwhile, Kuti recalled meeting Tinubu during the struggle against military rule.
He said the president is now exhibiting the same tendencies he once resisted.
“I met Ashiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu as a revolutionary, fighting the military,” he said.
“Today, he’s the same person doing the same thing that the military men he was fighting were doing to the people.”
“Today, he’s doing what he fought against.”
“That’s the disappointment because it happens too often.”
