Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has renewed his attack on Senator Ireti Kingibe. He said she will not return to the Senate after the 2027 election.
Wike spoke on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Abuja. His comments followed Kingibe’s allegation that the FCT Administration obtained loans without National Assembly approval. Wike rejected the claim and defended the borrowing process.
The minister also questioned Kingibe’s understanding of government borrowing.
“She is an illiterate, with all due respect, and that is why she is not going back to the Senate,” Wike said.
He added that she has “nothing to offer to the people of the FCT.”
According to Wike, government loans must form part of the budget. Wike then turned his attention to the 2027 Senate race. He said FCT residents had already decided who they would support.
“When the time is right, let her pack her bags out,” he said.
He also mentioned President Bola Tinubu and former senator Philip Aduda as politicians he said residents would support.
The latest exchange adds to the long-running disagreement between Wike and Kingibe. Kingibe defeated Aduda in the 2023 FCT Senate election. Wike has previously said he would work to unseat her in 2027.
