Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in extra time before captain Rodri lifted the trophy. Spain controlled possession throughout the match, created the better chances and limited Argentina to very few opportunities. Goalkeeper Unai Simón also finished the tournament with seven clean sheets, earning the Golden Glove award.

Spain ended the final with 65% possession, 20 shots and an expected goals tally of 1.94, underlining their superiority. They also became the World Cup champions with the fewest goals conceded, allowing just one goal throughout the tournament.
Argentina’s hopes suffered a major blow when Enzo Fernández was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a reckless challenge. Tensions boiled over after the final whistle, with several Argentine players involved in confrontations as Spain celebrated.
Argentina’s head coach, Scaloni, had this to say in his post-match presser:
“Even though they were out-playing us until the 85th minute, I would love to know what would have happened had we still had 11 men on the pitch,” he said of Fernandez’s dismissal.
“We managed to go all the way to the end when the match was so open and it just couldn’t be. They deserved the victory, that is the reality.”
The victory crowns an impressive campaign for Spain, who finished the tournament as deserving champions after consistently producing the best football on the world stage.
