Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have attacked Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba LGA of Borno state, abducting an unspecified number of students sitting for the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
The attack occurred on Monday morning while the students were writing the National Examinations Council (NECO) examination.
One teacher was reportedly killed during the attack, while another sustained injuries.
Nahum Daso, spokesperson of the Borno police command, confirmed the incident, adding that security operatives have launched a search for the missing students.
Police confirm attack
Daso said the terrorists invaded the community at about 9 am on motorcycles.
“Today at about 9am, suspected members of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists invaded the Lassa community on motorcycles,” he said.
“An unspecified number of students are currently missing, but the police, military, hunters and vigilantes are combing the area.”
Latest school abduction
The incident adds to the growing list of attacks on schools in the north-east.
Between May 13 and 14, terrorists attacked a primary school in Chibok, Borno state, and abducted 42 children.
