The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has denied allegations of a federal government plot to assassinate former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Spokesperson Dele Alake challenged African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Timi Frank to provide concrete evidence to substantiate his claims.

Furthermore, Alake revealed that President Bola Tinubu has directed security agencies to reinforce protection for all presidential and governorship candidates ahead of 2027.

The council urged law enforcement agencies to invite Frank for questioning regarding the serious security claims. Campaign officials dismissed the allegations as an attempt to generate political tension ahead of the upcoming general elections.

Federal Government Confirms Intact Security Details

The campaign council categorically rejected any suggestion that the Presidency or the APC planned to harm opposition leaders.

In addition, Alake denied claims that security personnel attached to the former vice president were withdrawn by state authorities.

“Atiku continues to enjoy police and Department of State Services protection,” Alake clarified during his statement.

He noted that Atiku’s status as a former vice president entitles him to two tiers of state-funded security cover.

Therefore, the council maintained that security arrangements around the opposition leader remain fully intact and compromised by no one.

Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Vibrant Opposition

Defending the administration’s democratic credentials, Alake stressed that President Tinubu values opposition politics as a crucial pillar of democracy.

He recalled that Tinubu spent 16 years in opposition, playing a key role in the historic 2015 election victory.

Meanwhile, the campaign council urged politicians to avoid unsubstantiated claims capable of heating up the polity.

Finally, Alake called on political parties to focus on policy issues rather than spreading alarmist rumours before 2027.
