Tinubu out of touch with Nigerians’ reality, says Hakeem Baba-Ahmed

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, national chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), says President Bola Tinubu is disconnected from the realities facing Nigerians, citing worsening poverty and insecurity.

Speaking during an interview on the Morning Show on Arise TV on Monday, the former spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum said the president appears unaware of the depth of hardship in the country.

Baba-Ahmed said comments suggesting Nigerians should acknowledge government progress show a lack of understanding of current conditions.

“If a president would say that if you don’t see his progress, you need to wear new glasses or you’re biased, then we should be worried,” he said.

He said it is difficult to reconcile such remarks with the prevailing economic and security challenges.

“There is no way you can live in this country, see the level of poverty and unaccountability, and still say Nigerians should applaud you,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed added that the perception of disconnection could affect the ruling party’s chances in the next election.

“One of the reasons we are confident we can defeat the APC is exactly this kind of mindset,” he said.

He said Nigerians are facing rising insecurity, hunger, and economic pressure, contrary to the government’s claims of progress.

“We are more insecure, more hungry, more desperate. We want change,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed added that if the president approaches the 2027 election with the same outlook and the process is free and fair, the ruling party could be defeated.
