Delta State Police operatives have arrested two men in connection with alleged drug trafficking. This came after intercepting a vehicle during a stop-and-search operation in Asaba on Wednesday.
The suspects, Hillary Osondu and Abubakar Bello, both 54, were apprehended on August 13, 2026, by operatives of Operation Delta Shield in Asaba. A search of their Toyota Hiace bus led to the recovery of 132 sachets of 100mg Tramadol.
Delta State Police Command spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed the arrest, saying both suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue. He added that the command is working to identify and apprehend other possible accomplices connected to the consignment. The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Tramadol abuse remains a significant public health and security concern across Nigeria, particularly in the south and northeast of the country. The 100mg variant, which far exceeds medically recommended dosages, is frequently seized by law enforcement in trafficking operations.
Security agencies across Nigeria have in recent years intensified crackdowns on Tramadol distribution networks. The NDLEA and state police commands have continued to record increasing seizures.
