Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 48 kidnapped villagers after repelling a terrorist attack on Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of Saturday after soldiers received a distress call reporting that heavily armed terrorists had invaded the community.
According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the attackers arrived on about 40 motorcycles and rounded up dozens of residents with the intention of taking them into the bush.
Troops responded immediately and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle upon reaching the village.
The military said the attackers fled into nearby bushes after coming under heavy fire. They abandoned all 48 abducted victims, who were rescued safely by the troops.
However, the attack claimed the life of one civilian. Two other residents sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda for medical treatment.
Following the rescue, troops launched aggressive patrols across the surrounding communities to prevent further attacks and pursue the fleeing terrorists.
The Theatre Command praised the soldiers for their bravery and professionalism during the operation. It also reaffirmed its commitment to restoring security across the North-West.
Residents were urged to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.
