Donald Trump, president of the United States, has commended the Nigerian government after a joint military operation allegedly killed Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, described as the second-in-command of ISIS globally.
In a post on Truth Social on Friday, Trump said American forces worked with the Nigerian armed forces to carry out the operation.
According to the US president, the mission was “meticulously planned” and successfully eliminated one of the world’s most active terrorists.
“Tonight, at my direction, brave American forces and the Armed Forces of Nigeria flawlessly executed a meticulously planned and very complex mission to eliminate the most active terrorist in the world from the battlefield,” he wrote.
Trump said the ISIS commander has been hiding in Africa but was tracked through intelligence sources.
“Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, second in command of ISIS globally, thought he could hide in Africa, but little did he know we had sources who kept us informed on what he was doing,” he said.
“He will no longer terrorize the people of Africa, or help plan operations to target Americans.”
According to him, the operation significantly weakened ISIS’ global network.
“With his removal, ISIS’s global operation is greatly diminished,” he added.
Trump also thanked the Nigerian government for collaborating with the United States on the operation.
“Thank you to the Government of Nigeria for your partnership on this operation,” he wrote.
