The heavily armed assailants stormed the police facility around 2:20 a.m., throwing explosives that detonated inside the compound.

The resulting fire engulfed the administrative building and destroyed several vehicles, including an operational Hilux van.

Law enforcement officers stationed at the facility engaged the invaders in an intense firefight lasting nearly an hour.

Investigators confirmed that the armed gang attempted to breach the station’s main armoury during the chaotic assault.

However, officers successfully defended the armoury, preventing the criminals from stealing firearms or ammunition.

“The hoodlums attacked the division with explosives, resulting in a fire that damaged part of the building,” DSP Chinaka stated.

Abia State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, later inspected the burned building and ordered immediate security reinforcements across Aba.

Tactical Teams Launch Operation Following Fatal Attack

Police tactical units immediately established roadblocks around Aba South to intercept fleeing suspects.

Furthermore, security personnel continue combing nearby communities and transit corridors to locate individuals involved in the arson attack.

Command authorities urged local residents and private healthcare clinics to report any individuals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds.

“Our tactical teams remain on high alert across the city,” declared Commissioner Afolabi during his inspection.

“We will track down every individual involved in this violent assault and bring them to justice,” he added.

Finally, police authorities reassured Aba residents that security measures remain active to protect public lives and property.
