Renewed strikes between the US and Iran have heightened tensions as efforts to secure a ceasefire remain deadlocked.
The United States and Iran launched new military strikes across the Gulf region, with both sides accusing each other of escalating the conflict amid stalled ceasefire negotiations.
US Central Command said it carried out “self-defense” strikes on Iranian military targets on Qeshm Island and intercepted missiles and drones launched by Iran toward regional countries and commercial shipping routes. Iran, in turn, said it targeted US military assets in retaliation and warned that any disruption to the Strait of Hormuz would come at a heavy cost.
The latest exchange comes after weekend talks aimed at ending months of conflict failed to produce a breakthrough. Disagreements reportedly remain over the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions relief and Iran’s nuclear programme.
Despite the renewed fighting, diplomatic efforts continue, with both Washington and Tehran maintaining sharply different positions on the terms of any future agreement.
The latest escalation underscores the growing uncertainty surrounding ceasefire negotiations and regional stability in the Gulf.
