Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has explained why the Accord Party is backing President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election. He said continuity is necessary to complete key infrastructure projects across the country.
The endorsement followed a meeting between the governor and the party’s leadership in Osogbo on Saturday. A statement issued by Adeleke’s re-election campaign spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, confirmed the development.
Party cites ongoing federal projects
The party said it backed Tinubu’s re-election because it wants ongoing federal projects to be completed. These include the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway.
The meeting also reviewed preparations for the forthcoming Osun governorship election. Party leaders warned against political violence, voter intimidation, and electoral manipulation. They also cautioned against the alleged misuse of security agencies during the poll.
Non-indigenous residents declare support for Adeleke
In a related development, non-indigenous residents from southern states, as well as Benue and Plateau, declared their support for Governor Adeleke’s re-election. They made this known during a town hall meeting in Ede. The gathering reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful coexistence and the state’s development.
Police declare five suspects wanted
Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command has declared five suspected political thugs wanted. The declaration follows recent violence that claimed several lives and destroyed property in parts of the state.
Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi identified the suspects as Dauda Olamilekan (Emir), Taoreed (Small Rugged), Adetunji Kamoru Olatunde, Saka Afees (Terror), and Adeyemi Saheed. He urged members of the public to provide information that could lead to their arrest.
APC candidate appeals to Christian voters
Also on the campaign trail, the APC governorship candidate in Osun, Bola Oyebamiji, appealed to Christian voters to judge him by his competence rather than his religion.
“As citizens, we all have a responsibility to elect leaders based on competence, integrity, character, vision and capacity to serve—not on sentiment, ethnicity or religious affiliation alone,” Oyebamiji said.
He added that although he is a Muslim, he would govern the state in line with the Constitution, the rule of law, fairness, justice, and equity if elected.
APC unveils National Campaign Council
To strengthen its push for victory, the APC also unveiled a 276-member National Campaign Council. The party named Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as chairman. The party said the council would coordinate campaign strategy and mobilise support across the state.
