Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has slammed Peter Obi, dismissing his public displays of modesty as “fake”.
Wike delivered the sharp criticism while addressing Rivers State youths on Tuesday, October 21, 2026.
Specifically, the FCT Minister targeted Obi’s political strategy of celebrating birthdays at Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
Furthermore, Wike mocked Obi’s frequent public appearances buying roadside roasted corn as mere political posturing.
Consequently, political tensions continue rising as major figures position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike Knocks Peter Obi Over IDP Camp Birthday Celebrations and Social Media Politics
Wike questioned the authenticity of Obi’s populist lifestyle, pointing out that his past record as Anambra State governor differed significantly.
“Make him the president of social media so he can go to IDP camps and buy corn on the road,” Wike stated mockingly.
In addition, the minister accused the opposition figure of using staged acts of humility solely to deceive voters.
“When you were governor, you did not go to IDP camps to celebrate your birthday; all of a sudden you are now going,” Wike added.
Meanwhile, supporters of both political camps have exchanged heated remarks across various digital networking platforms.
Political Strategy and 2027 Electoral Posturing
The vocal exchange highlights the growing intensity of political rhetoric as parties prepare for upcoming electoral campaigns.
Wike maintained that genuine leadership requires consistent institutional performance rather than optics designed for internet audiences.
Furthermore, political analysts note that public posturing remains a central battleground for shaping voter perception in Nigeria.
Therefore, cross-party criticisms are expected to escalate as national convention dates and campaign flag-offs approach.
Finally, electorate scrutiny over candidate authenticity continues to dominate political discourse nationwide.
