Pan-Yoruba leader Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti has passed away at the age of 100.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State confirmed the passing of the elder statesman on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Specifically, the governor expressed sadness while announcing the patriarch’s death in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
“He was a beacon of wisdom, integrity, and selfless service,” Governor Aiyedatiwa stated during his tribute.
Political leaders and citizens across Nigeria have begun mourning the loss of the revered democratic icon.
Tributes Pour in for Renowned Awoist Patriarch
Born on May 11, 1926, Pa Fasoranti celebrated his historic 100th birthday earlier this year.
Throughout his century-long life, he remained a staunch follower of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
Furthermore, he championed true federalism, restructuring, democratic governance, and social justice across the nation. He served as Finance Commissioner in old Ondo State during the Second Republic administration.
Therefore, political analysts describe his passing as the closing chapter of a legendary progressive generation.
A Legacy of Public Service, Education, and Courage
Beyond politics, Pa Fasoranti established notable secondary schools that trained thousands of students over decades. He led Afenifere through turbulent political transitions, providing steady leadership and principled moral guidance.
Meanwhile, Governor Aiyedatiwa extended heartfelt condolences to the Fasoranti family and the Akure Kingdom. He assured that Ondo State will honor the elder statesman’s enduring legacy of service and integrity.
Finally, funeral arrangements will be announced following consultations between state officials and the bereaved family.
