The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has warned the All Progressives Congress and President Bola Tinubu against overconfidence ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Ayodele gave the warning in a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, on Friday. He said overconfidence could become the ruling party’s weakness in the election. According to him, many Nigerians could reject Tinubu despite the party’s political strength and resources.
The cleric also warned the APC against relying on money to secure victory in 2027. He said the hardship and insecurity facing Nigerians could influence how they vote.
“Overconfidence will kill APC; they will be too overconfident, and that will be the party’s weakness in the election. They will turn Tinubu to a demi-god, but it will make them lose the election. They believe money can do everything, but it will fail in the 2027 election,” Ayodele said.
Hardship may influence voters
Ayodele said the current economic hardship had changed the way many Nigerians view politics. He added that insecurity had also affected public confidence in the government. According to him, these challenges could make voters reject the APC despite any financial inducements offered during the election period.
“Common men will kick against the overconfidence because hardship and insecurity have taught them a lesson. They won’t see where they are lacking and believe they can do everything with money, but it will fail,” he added.
The cleric further warned that the Presidential Campaign Council might not be able to secure Tinubu’s re-election if the government failed to address the problems facing Nigerians. He said campaign activities alone would not change the minds of voters. Instead, the administration must deal with the issues that have caused public dissatisfaction.
Ayodele asks Tinubu to act before 2027
Ayodele urged Tinubu to take steps to improve the living conditions of Nigerians before the election. He warned that failing to address the hardship in the country could lead to widespread rejection of the APC at the polls.
“If President Tinubu thinks the presidential campaign council will change the minds of Nigerians towards him, it’s a pure lie. The people in the committee cannot do anything for the President; there is no individual that can change the mind of Nigerians.
“The people are going through so much hardship, and not solving the problem the administration created before the election will lead to serious rejection for the ruling party. It’s better Tinubu works to resolve it now or face the anger of Nigerians,” he said.
Ayodele’s warning comes as political parties and aspirants begin preparations for the 2027 general elections. The performance of the Tinubu administration is expected to remain a major issue as political campaigns gather momentum.
