Abdullahi Ganduje declared that northern voters supported President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election. He made this statement in Abuja during a courtesy visit from northern youth leaders. Ganduje, the former All Progressives Congress National Chairman and ex-Kano State Governor, emphasized unity.
He stated, “Pertaining to the next election in 2027, those that are nursing or thinking otherwise, that the North will vote for another candidate other than Asiwaju, are making a big mistake.”
Furthermore, Ganduje highlighted Tinubu’s role in Nigeria’s democracy. He noted that Tinubu struggled and even went into exile for democratic survival.
Praise for Tinubu’s Leadership
Ganduje praised Tinubu as a true politician. He said, “This is the first time Nigeria as a nation is lucky to have a politician as President. His constituency is politics, his upbringing is politics because he believes in the unity of this country.”
Additionally Ganduje pointed out that no better candidate existed from southern Nigeria beyond 2027.
He commended Tinubu’s reforms. Ganduje explained that Tinubu removed the fuel subsidy, a promise previous administrations failed to fulfill. He added, “Asiwaju has only been there for less than four years now, and we have seen the measures, the reforms that he undertook.”
Moreover this action increased funds for all states, regardless of party affiliation. Ganduje stressed the national benefit. He remarked, “He did not say that he removed the subsidy because he wanted to improve the APC governors, but he did it for the nation.” However these steps improved the economy.
Youth Leaders’ Support
The Northern Nigeria Youth Leaders visited Ganduje. They honored him as their patron. National Leader Murtala Gamji called Ganduje a role model. Gamji said, “We are here to tell you that wherever you focus, that’s where we go with you.”
The group pledged full backing for Tinubu. They planned to mobilize youths across 19 northern states. Additionally they committed to raising funds for Tinubu’s nomination form. Gamji rejected claims against northern support.
He stated, “We have to do this because some people are insinuating that the North will not vote for Asiwaju in 2027, but that’s a lie because nobody has supported us in the North like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Ganduje thanked them. He said, “There’s no better commitment than this. You are contributing funds, you are also contributing your brain, you are contributing your energy, and you are contributing your time to ensure the re-election of Asiwaju.”
Countering Opposition Claims
Some northerners claimed Tinubu favored the south. However Tinubu denied this and showed documents proving more northern appointments. Despite this, a few remained unconvinced and threatened opposition in 2027.
Ganduje referenced a pre-election agreement. Northern leaders agreed a southerner would succeed Muhammadu Buhari after eight years. Therefore Ganduje urged unity behind Tinubu.
This declaration strengthened APC ties. It countered narratives of northern abandonment. As a result, youth mobilization efforts grew.
