Pelosi Backs JFK’s Grandson Jack Schlossberg in Bid for US House Seat

Nancy Pelosi endorsed Jack Schlossberg in his bid for New York’s 12th Congressional District seat. Schlossberg competed in the Democratic primary for the Manhattan district. The seat opened after Jerry Nadler retired after over three decades in Congress.

Endorsement Details

Pelosi announced the endorsement on February 8, 2026. She highlighted Schlossberg’s youth appeal in a statement. Pelosi stated, “Mr. Schlossberg’s candidacy will help Democrats win nationwide.”

Additionally, she said, “This is a consequential moment for the country — faith in our politics is fractured and trust in government is tenuous.” Pelosi praised his passion for solving problems and ability to inspire young people.

Schlossberg’s Background

Jack Schlossberg, grandson of John F. Kennedy, announced his candidacy in November 2025. He criticized Donald Trump in his announcement video. Meanwhile Schlossberg stated, “We deserve better, and we can do better, and it starts with the Democratic Party winning back control of the House of Representatives.”

Moreover he advocated for party reforms after 2024 losses. In addition, Schlossberg aligned with the progressive wing and used viral social media videos to connect with voters.

Family Legacy

Schlossberg became the latest Kennedy to seek office. His mother, Caroline Kennedy, served as ambassador to Japan and Australia. Pelosi served with Ted Kennedy and other relatives. However Schlossberg distanced from cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr. He called him “a loser” and “a threat to public health and American scientific leadership.”

Primary Competition

The primary featured 14 candidates. Contenders included George Conway, Micah Lasher, Alex Bores, and Cameron Kasky. Furthermore, Jami Floyd joined the race. Pelosi’s endorsement marked the highest-profile support in the contest.
